About Us

At Women Move Mountains we believe in the transformative power of adventure. But what does that really mean?

It means that adventure isn’t just for the “outdoorsy” types or for those who feel like they’ve got it all figured out. It’s for anyone ready to step outside their comfort zone, face new challenges and discover what they’re truly capable of; physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Whether you’ve never thought of hiking or outdoor adventure as something for you, or if you feel intimidated by the idea of taking on a new challenge, we’re here to show you that you don’t need to be an expert to start. What we offer is a space where you can face challenges in awe-inspiring landscapes, learn new skills, meet new people and walk away feeling more confident and connected to yourself.

We also want to help women love moving their bodies in a way that feels natural and joyful, not forced or punishing. It's about finding the fun in movement and getting away from the traditional narrative that exercise has to be hard or feel like a chore. Moving your body should be about play, discovery, and feeling good, just as much as it’s about challenging yourself.

We believe in 'realness', that means no pressure, no pretence, just real women showing up and pushing themselves in ways they never thought possible.  We know that personal growth doesn’t come from easy wins, but from embracing discomfort, facing fears, and discovering strength where you didn’t expect it.

Why do we do this? Because we believe that the thill and joy of adventure is for everyone, and that taking on a challenge, whether on a mountain trail or in everyday life, can lead to meaningful change. Whether it’s small lifestyle shifts or big decisions, we’re here to help you find the strength to tackle whatever comes next.

At Women Move Mountains, it’s not about escaping life; it’s about living and loving it! And we’re here to guide you every step of the way, whether you’re looking to take part in one of our Adventure Discovery Retreats, have 121 coaching or even better, both. Love moving, love mountains, live great lives.

How it started

Women Move Mountains was born from the experience of its Founder and Lead Facilitator, Beth Kennedy. She has 15 years of experience working in the charity and social enterprise fields, supporting young people and adults from diverse backgrounds including experience with the criminal justice system, long-term mental health challenges, homelessness or drug & alcohol addiction. Her career evolved into business development and strategic leadership and she was Executive Director of a community arts & culture venue. Her focus throughout has always been about creating change, fostering resilience and helping people and organisations to thrive. Beth's life took an unexpected turn in 2018 when she was diagnosed with an underlying heart condition that explained a lifetime of problematic symptoms. Recovery proved challenging both physically and mentally, but in tandem with some formal therapy she discovered that moving her body and being in the mountains were the single greatest contributors to both recovery in the short-term and improved general health in the longer term.  Not only that, in the mountains she found more than just healing, she found purpose, clarity and strength and a reignited passion for adventure.  With every mountain experience she learns something new that informs how she approaches life, leadership and relationships and is passionate about enabling others to have this same experience. This is the foundation of Women Move Mountains.

Why Mountains?

Mountains have a profound ability to ignite a sense of adventure in us all and activate our natural desire to move, something so many of us feel we've lost as we’ve been encouraged to live increasingly sedentary lives. As you hike you build strength, stamina, and a deep connection with your body, while the beauty of the landscape keeps you engaged every step of the way. The mountains inspire movement not through force, but through the joy of exploration and the challenge of the journey itself. Anita Kundu, the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest from the North Side, said: ‘’Mountains remind us that the journey is as important as the summit, and that growth happens in the face of challenges”. The mountains also offer us an incredible natural classroom. With their towering heights, unpredictable weather and awe-inspiring views, moving in mountain environments teaches us resilience, self-motivation, effective communication, collaboration, humility and patience, all invaluable skills for life and especially in the pursuit of growth and change.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a powerful tool for anyone looking to set meaningful goals and make real progress towards them. Often in life, we know what we could be doing, whether it's a personal goal, a career aspiration, or a shift in mindset, but for some reason, we just can't seem to take that first step, or keep moving forward consistently. Why is that? It’s not because we lack willpower or knowledge. It’s because it’s hard. The reasons behind this struggle can be complex and personal. For some, past trauma, negative experiences, or unhelpful habits can create emotional or mental barriers. For others, the pressures of society, family, or external expectations can make it feel impossible to prioritise our own desires. The path to change may feel unclear, or the fear of failure can stop us before we even start. Whatever the reason, the challenge is not always about knowing what to do, it’s about knowing how to do it. Which is where coaching comes in. Coaching is not therapy, and it’s not about offering advice or telling you what you should do. Instead, it’s about unlocking your potential in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space. It’s a relationship designed to help you move from where you are to where you want to be. The role of a coach is to listen, ask the right questions, and help you tap into your own inner resources - those strengths, skills, and abilities that are already within you and waiting to be released.

Why do we do it?

The foundation of our work is rooted in the belief that the very experience of being in the mountains can be truly transformative. When you’re immersed in the immense scale and beauty of the mountains, you’re creating time and space for thought and reflection. Often, that time and space sparks a shift in perspective, a moment of insight, or a renewed sense of purpose, giving you the drive to start something new or make a positive lifestyle change. But going home it’s all too easy to settle back into our habits and routines. This is where the coaching comes in. On return home after the retreat, you will have four one-to-one coaching sessions over the next three months to help you set a goal and take practical, actionable steps toward it. Whether your goal is personal, professional, or somewhere in between, coaching is designed to meet you where you are and guide you to the next step.

Why Women?

We believe an all-female space is vital when it comes to pushing yourself physically and mentally. In the mountains (and life!) women face unique challenges, both physical and psychological, that are shaped by their specific experiences and perspectives. An all-women environment creates a powerful sense of trust and camaraderie, where together we can discover our strength at our own pace and encourage one another without the pressure of outside expectations. This supportive, non-competitive atmosphere makes it easier to face challenges head-on, take risks, and go further than you ever thought possible. When you're pushing your limits, there’s something truly special about being surrounded by women who implicitly and instinctively understand the nuances of your journey. That shared connection allows you to tap into a collective resilience, drawing on each other’s strength, experience, and support. This is why a women-only space is so transformative: it empowers you to break through mental and physical barriers, knowing you’re in a safe, nurturing environment that’s designed to help you thrive.
